Item description: * See scan - absolutely perfect condition. Marked at both circular knob, as well as reverse oval base with Master manufacture maker's mark Miloshev. This is the scarcest Bulgarian aviation paratrooper / paratroop parachutists badge with the LARGE white chute / parachute at center surrounded by blue enamel. There is a vast difference from the later WWII para badge pin issues with the smaller parachute. The wreath surrounding the badge in this FIRST ever Bulgarian badge has a different pattern from the later ones. Also the crown has a different design. This is an extremely rare decoration / award badge awarded by King Boris III to an extremely limited number of Bulgarian officers and other staff that has been on the first Bulgarian paratroopers training in the NAZI German / Germany allied FALLSCHIRM-INFANTERIE base at Braunschweig in 1942 and had returned to Bulgaria in 1943. About 450 pilot parachutists had gone for this training and about 400 had returned. Only these 400 had received this special badge and about 150 of them had died during combat before the end of the war. Of the remaining 250 paratroopers / parachutists there are about 15 or so still alive. This badge belonged to one of these heroes and was bought from relatives about 10 years ago and remained ina private collection until now - offered for sale at VicMart. So far there are only about 3 or 4 such badges known to exist in other private collections and about 5 or 6 more at the parachutist airborne veterans that are still alive. I was assured by some of them that they will never depart with their piece until their death, so the collector can be sure this is an unique piece. During 1942 and 1943 and during WWII as a whole, Bulgaria was a NAZI German ally and many Bulgarian soldiers had gone through training at German special service training camps and schools. At the Braunschweig training cam during that same time were also the elite NAZI SS SS-Fallschirmjägerbataillon 500. SS-FJ-Btl 500 went into action against Yugoslav National Army partisans near in the Tuzla region of Bosnia in February 1944. The battalion then participated in anti-partisan sweeps in Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia. But their most famous exploit was Operation Rösselsprung, the attempt to capture the partisan leader Tito at his HQ in the hills above the small Bosnian town of Drvar, supported by elements from the 373rd Infantry Division, Brandenburg Division, the Prinz Eugen Division, Luftwaffe paras and air support and Croatian troops. As well capturing or killing the partisan leader, the SS paras were also to neutralize the British, American and Soviet military missions. So far this is the first Bulgarian Royal NAZI parachutist's badge of this type that we've had for sale at VicMart. ABSOLUTELY SCARCE and rare militaria / military collector piece and probably one of the rarest Bulgarian badges. Guaranteed authentic and genuine. Upon additional request we can issue a COA for this piece, but extra charges apply. The scanned photo beneath the badge shows members of the 1st Bulgarian Parachutist / Paratrooper Airborne Company either in Brauschweig or after they backed to Bulgaria wearing that same badge, as well as the NAZI German type given to them in the Braunschweig camp.
